The purple flowers are semi-tubular and most calyces remain on the plant all winter, which adds a mass of purple to gardens during colder months. The leaves are slightly hairy and lanceolate shape, and grow densely along the stem. In early spring, the new leaves are a lovely lime green, right photo.
