Deerweed, formerly classified as Lotus scoparus, is a native pioneer species found in dry habitats of California, Arizona and Mexico. Clusters of small 2-7 small yellow flowers bloom from late winter through summer. Small green pinnate deciduous leaflets (3-6) on mostly erect stems. Often used in restoration areas for its nitrogen fixing abilities and tolerance of harsh conditions.
