This dramatic, easy-to-grow succulent is evergreen with rosettes of shiny, black, fleshy spoon-shaped leaves on a strong stem. Drought-tolerant, they prefer light dappled shade, especially inland. Color is darkest in strong light. Long-lasting, brilliant yellow, pollinator-friendly inflorescence is followed by the death of the primary head, but usually side-shoots remain to carry on the show. Deer and rodent resistant. Color most intense in sun.
