Artemisia douglasiana, native to California, is an aromatic shrub used in Native American cultures for treating minor injuries and for ceremonial purposes of inducing dreams.  Typically found in drainage areas closer to the coast and in riparian areas in the hotter dryer areas of its range.  Because of its rhizomatic growth habit, it is frequently used for bank stabilization. This upright shrub is winter deciduous.

Soil: Tolerant of a variety of soils as long as adequate moisture is adequate
Water: Low to moderately high
Bloom Color and Season: Small, white inconspicuous flower often not producing viable seed.
Other Notes: Known host to three species of moths and butterflies; attracts a variety of insects, birds, and butterflies.  Deer resistant.  Best planted with other California Natives associated with riparian plant communities.
