Camissoniopsis cheiranthifolia - Beach Evening Primrose

This perennial is native to the open dunes and sandy soils of coastal California and Oregon. The Beach Evening Primrose grows prostrate along the beach surface, forming mats more than 3' across. It makes a tidy, dense, glistening, silvery-green foliar mat 6-12" tall and about 30" across, filling in bare spots and spilling handsomely over the edge of a bed. You'll get a cheery abundance of clear sunshine-yellow 1 ½” single flowers, each sporting a fun balloon-like stigma over a long season. Easy, hardy and drought tolerant, this coastal native does very well in sandy soil but showiest in rich loamy soil with some summer water. Wonderful massed and very nice in containers (10+ gal). Attracts bees! Cut back to 4" tall in Fall.
