Liatris spicata - Blazing Star

Blazing Star is an erect, clump forming, slender perennial commonly reaching four feet (at least) in height. It has linear, grass-like leaves clumped toward the base of the plant, and then extending up the stems to the showy flower cluster. The light purple tufted flower heads rise in tall spikes that bloom from the top down from mid-summer through to fall. The protruding styles give the flower an overall feathery appearance (hence the alternate name, “Dense Gayfeather"). Blazing Star is a pollinator magnet for the 3 Bs.  It requires well draining soil and average water.

Light: Blazing Stars do best in full sun.
Soil: Blazing Stars do best in well-drained soil that can stay consistently moist
Water: Moderate water requirement
