Blue Grama Grass, native to the Midwest and Western US, is the most heat and drought tolerant of native grasses.  Blue Grama Grass adds an interesting shape and texture to the garden and is also beneficial as a turf grass.  The grass foliage stays short at 4" to 6", and the seedheads rise above making the blooming plant 12" to 20" tall.  In addition to being a great addition to the home garden, it is a host plant for Skipper Butterflies and provides forage seed for birds.

Soil: Poor to average, neutral to alkaline soil with good drainage.  Grows best in a mix of sand and clay.
Water: Moderate to dry.  Drought tolerant once established; allow to dry between waterings.  Does not tolerate flooding.
Bloom: Flowers appear in Summer and Fall and seedheads last throughout the Winter.  Uses:  In addition to garden, cut flowers and turf, its deep roots make this an excellent erosion control plant.
