Ceanothus thyrsiflorus 'Blueblossom' is an evergreen shrub/tree endemic to coastal California and Oregon. It grows in a variety of aspects from its shape to leaf and flower color.  It grows as a low-growing mounding shrub of 2 to 4 feet to an upright 30-foot tree. Evergreen glossy leaves can be bright green to dark green, and its blooms can range from very light to dark blue.  As with all native ceanothus, no irrigation once established (2 - 3 years).  Ceanothus is an essential food source for beneficial insects and birds in winter and early spring.

Size: 2 - 30 feet tall, 2 - 40 feet wide                                                                                              Light: Sun, partial shade                                                                                                                Soil: Well-drained soil that has not been amended or fertilize.                                                                  Water: Maximum irrigation 1 time per month is summer once established                                      Bloom: Dark blue to white in winter and early spring                                                                                    Other: Blueblossom is a fast to moderate grower.  Can tip prune and cut out leafless branches in the dry season                                                                                                                                              Uses: Trim up as a hedge, low growing forms as groundcover, prune to a single trunk for a tree form.
