Ray Hartman Ceanothus is a fast-growing, evergreen native flowering large shrub/small tree.  It has dark glossy alternate ovate leaves and light to dark blue blossoms in late winter to early spring.  Ray Hartman Ceanothus tolerates a variety of soil types.  Deer love the leaves of this ceanothus, so protect the plant in its early stages of growth.

Soil: Tolerates loam, light clay and sand
Water: Drought tolerant, once established. Avoid watering in summer and early fall.

Other notes and Uses: The early blooming ceanothus are important food sources for pollinators and other wildlife. Tolerates light pruning.  Used as hedge or in pollinator gardens.
