Coleus are tender tropicals that are generally grown as annuals because they are hardy only in USDA Hardiness Zone 11. This brightly colored variety has multiple patterns. It thrives best in semi-shaded areas, with a warm, humid location with indirect light. They are not happy in overly dry conditions. Coleus is an excellent houseplant that will add color to those dreary winter days. Rainbow variety has bold and bright shades of maroons, burgundys, pinks and iguana green. At their compact size, they are perfect for both indoors and outdoors.  Great for containers and planters!

Annual (Perennial indoors)
Size: 12 inches tall and 12-18 inches wide
Light: Coleus has long been considered a shade plant but the best leaf color is achieved with morning sun and some degree of afternoon shade. Many varieties do well in both shade and part-sun. 
Soil: Coleus like warm soils with good drainage
Water: Aim to keep the soil moist but not wet, avoiding watering too heavily, as the plant is susceptible to root rot. Coleus plants in containers will need more frequent watering than those grown in the ground. During hot and dry summer months, Coleus container plants will need watering at least once a day, sometimes twice. 
Foliage: Multiple shades of iguana green, pink, maroon and burgundy leaves.
Other notes: Pinch stem tips if you want to control height and increase bushiness.
Uses: Coleus is a plant that has been used since ancient times to treat heart disorders such as high blood pressure and chest pain (angina), as well as respiratory disorders such as asthma.
