Large, elegant blossoms of white with pink, dark lavender, yellow, rose, claret and pale blue.
Aquilegia, commonly known as Columbines, are a delicate and compact flowering plant that are old-fashioned favorites for cottage gardens. “Mrs. Scott Elliot” is a hybrid and the seeds come from France. The delicate deep green leaves serve as a patterned backdrop for bonnet-shaped flowers, often two-tone and with long graceful spurs. This plant’s flowers boast a variety of shades, ranging from pink to dark lavender, yellow, rose, claret and pale blue. The flowers are pollen and nectar-rich, and attract bees and hummingbirds. They flower in early summer.Perennial/ Deciduous

Size: Grows 3 feet in height with a spread of 12 inches.
Light: Partial shade is best
Soil: Columbines prefer well-drained and moist soil, but adapt well to either clay or sandy soil, heavy or light soil. Classified as “hardy”.
Water: Medium water requirement.
Bloom: Blooms in early Summer; blooms have varied shades: pink, dark lavender, yellow, rose, claret and pale blue
Other notes: Because columbines bloom early, it’s best to pair them with later blooming ornamentals.
Uses: Columbines work well for borders, in a location where the delicate blooms can be appreciated.
