Bergenia are a large-leafed evergreen perennial from the rocky cliffs of northwest China to Sibera. Rosettes of leathery, roundish leaves form dense slowly-spreading clumps of foliage to 12" tall. Lavender-pink or white flowers rise on leafless stalks of 18 inches. Shade is essential for lush plants.
