Hearst's Ceanothus is a low-growing, spreading native plant that grows much wider than tall (8 foot spread to one foot height). This flowering shrub is endemic to San Luis Obispo County, where the  SLO hilly coastlines are the only place where it grows wild. The younger branches are hairy and somewhat felt-like in texture. The shiny evergreen leaves are oval, with a cupped and rippled surface. The flower clusters, borne on short stalks, feature a multitude of tiny lavender to blue flowers. This plant prefers proximity to the coast and likes fog.
