This species has been extensively utilized in hybridization of beautiful orchid cacti over the past 200 years. Grows primarily as an epiphyte in the seasonally dry tropical biome of Central Mexico to Central America. When mature, and somewhat root bound, huge fragrant white blossoms become an annual event. To maximize flowering, water occasionally with 1/2-strength high-phosphorus (labelled 'Bloom') fertilizer in February/March. Up-pot every 3-5 years.

NOTE: 2-year rooted cuttings likely to mature to bloom size after 2-3 years more growth.

Light:  bright, indirect light, dappled shade
Soil: Well-drained.
Water:  Allow to dry between waterings.
Bloom: Huge, white, fragrant and very showy, lasts for one night!
Uses: hanging container; indoor or outdoor with protection
