Grindelia stricta - Coastal Gumweed

This plant is native to the west coast of the US, from California to Alaska. The yellow and red flowers are daisy-like in shape, and sit atop a cup of thick green phyllaries, forming an erect stem.The plant itself is variable in appearance, taking the form of low-formed clumps or a sprawling shrub growing to heights of up to 5 ft. tall. Deadheading encourages flowering. This plant is very low maintenance. Butterflies love Grindelia!
