Liriope spicata - Variegated Lilyturf

Liriope spicata is a rhizomatous, grass-like perennial which forms a clump of narrow, arching, variegated leaves, typically growing 6-12" high. Erect flower spikes with pale lavender flowers arise, somewhat hidden, among the leaves in late summer. Flowers often give way to blackish berries in fall.

Plant Type: Evergreen herbaceous ornamental grass                                     

Size:  1 - 1 1/2 feet tall; 1 - 2 feet spread.                                             

Light: Full shade or part shade/part sun.                                                     

Soil: Prefers well-drained soils; okay in alkaline; clay, sand, acidic; loam           Water: Moderate water; somewhat drought tolerant.                                     

Bloom Color and Season: Purple flowers blooming in Summer.                   

Other Notes: Lilyturf will wilt in high temperatures.                                        

Uses: Bordering a sidewalk or as an edging for a landscape bed.  Grows well underneath trees or around shrubs but does not tolerate foot traffic.
