Ratibida columnifera - Mexican Hat Plant

As the common name indicates, Ratibida columnifera have cylindrical center disks that are dark brown and resemble the crown of a slender sombrero in shape. They look best grouped or planted in mass because the individual plants tend to appear sparse because of the leaves. Blooms are a rich, brown to purple ray flower, and the foliage has a strong odor that repels deer. The showy flower last a long time. Drought-tolerant.
