Eryngium planum- Blue Sea Holly

Also referred to as simply Sea Holly or Star Thistle, this plant is an excellent choice for sun-baked areas of the garden that are difficult to water. Blue Sea Holly can be planted individually or in small groups. Deer and rabbit resistant, it is popular with bees and butterflies. With a deep taproot that allows it to survive in poor soil, an established Sea Holly plant can live for decades, slowly growing into a small shrub. 

Herbacious Perennial

Size: Grows 2-3 feet tall; 1-2 feet wide.
Sun: Full sun
Water: Very little, once established
Bloom: Summer and Fall; Blue/purple flowers.
Soil: Prefers Sandy, well-drained (and actually does poorly in rich, fertile soil)
