Cuphea ignea - Cigar Flower

Tubular orange  flowers are rimmed with white.  It blooms throughout the year in mild climates. This small evergreen shrub blooms singly from the axils of the leaves from early summer to late fall making the whole plant a mass of flowers. The leaves are 2-6 inches long, oppositely arranged, tapering on both base and tip on arching red stems.  Its neat rounded shape and long bloom cycle also makes it suitable for containers. A pollinator super magnet, attracting hummers, bees, and butterflies.

Zones: 8-11
Size: Grows 3 feet in height and width. Spreads by rhizomes.   
Light: Partial shade.  Also makes an excellent house plant.
Soil: Best in well-drained soil 
Water: Moderate water requirement. 
Bloom: First emerge yellow in early summer and age to their distinctive orange from the base up.
Uses: Garden pollinator, but also an excellent indoor plant. Prune to desired size.
