Cuphea llavea - 'Bat-Faced Cuphea

Bat-Faced Cuphea is a densely branched, fast-growing evergreen subshrub with unique red and purple tubular flowers, its configuration said to resemble a bat's face.  Blooming late spring through the first frost, flowers provide rich nectar that attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators.  Native to Mexico, this is a very showy, low maintenance plant.

Size:  1.5- 2.5 feet tall; 2-3 feet wide

Light:  Full sun or light shade

Soil: Well-draining chalk, loam, or sand

Water: Average

Bloom: Showy bright red and purple flowers blooming in late Spring through Fall

Other Notes: No dead-heading needed.  Does best with regular fertilization

Uses: Along pathways, in beds and boarders, containers, hanging baskets.  Formal, informal and cottage gardens
