Dianthus barbatus - Sweet William Lace Mantle

Sweet William: This lovely cottage garden favorite has double-flowered trusses densely packed with eye-catching, tiny fringed blossoms that make vividly colored bouquets. Sweet William blooms in its first season from seed in shades of purple, violet, crimson, salmon, pink and pure white, including laced bicolors. Flowers have a soft, sweet clove fragrance. These bedding and border plants bloom in profusion on strong stems, perfect for cutting long-lasting bouquets. Sweet William attracts birds, bees, and butterflies. They can re-seed if allowed, as well.

Biennial or Tender Perennial

Light: Sweet William does best in full sun
Size: Grows 12-18 inches in height with a spread of 6-12 inches.      
Soil: Sweet William do best in rich, well-drained soil. 
Water: Medium water requirement. 
Bloom: Blooms from late spring through mid- Summer or on and off until frost if deadheaded.  Mixed colors.
Uses: Sweet William is popular for cottage gardens, bed and borders, and container planting.
