Our California native Diplacus, 'Bush Monkey Flower', is the coastal form of Mimulus aurantiacus.  It prefers shade when planted inland, sun if on the coast.  It is evergreen perennial shrub in the shade and on the coast but goes dormant in the summer if grown in hot, dry terrain.  It grows in a mounding spreading form, has green sticky leaves and orange tubular flowers.  Like most monkeyflowers it prefers some shade and low water, once established.

Size: 3 - 4 ft tall and wide    
Light: Partial shade preferred. 
Soil: Tolerates a variety of soils (chalky, clay, loamy, and sandy). Likes well-drained soil. 
Water: Low water once established 
Bloom:  Orange blooms early spring through summer 
Other Notes: Drought tolerant, deer resistant, perfect for bee, butterfly and hummingbird gardens.
