Eschscholzia californica - California Poppy "Mahogany Red"

The Mahogany Red Poppy is a form of the California poppy with stunning deep-red flowers that contrast elegantly with the silver-gray-green leaves. They reseed vigorously, and grow to just one foot tall.  The leaves are divided into round, lobed segments. The flowers are solitary on long stems, silky-textured with four petals. These native annuals bloom from February through September, but most prolifically in the drier summer months.  An important pollinator, poppies are popular for bringing the 3 Bs to gardens, for their vivid splashes of color, for their low water needs, and for being deer resistant.

Size: Grows 8-24 inches in height, and 12 -24 inches in spread.     
Light: CA Poppies do best in full sun.
Soil: CA Poppies do best in well-drained soil
Water: Very low water requirement
Bloom: Blooms February through Sept.; Deep-red variety
Other notes & Uses: Garden pollinator; excellent for native gardens.
