Fragaria chiloensis, commonly referred to as Beach Strawberry, is a Pacific Coast native with a vigorous low spreading growing habit.  Small white flowers around yellow stamens and carpels sprinkle thick leathery dark green leaves.   Great as a ground cover or turf substitute in sun or partial shade on the Coast; shade if grown inland.  Tolerates light traffic and cutting with mower or trimmer to freshen plants.  Low to very low water and deer resistant and host to several butterflies and moths.
