Coffeeberry, dense shrub with lovely red bark and dark green oval, smooth-edged leaves.  Its flowers are small green and inconspicuous until they evolve into highly valued black berries.  This plant supports birds, bees, bats, and lepidopteran species that generously reseed Coffeeberry throughout their territory. This is an easy to grow plant tolerating of soil types and sun exposure.  Its dense foliage makes it an excellent hedge plant, with the added advantage of being fire resistant.  

Evergreen Native Shrub

Size: 6 to 15 feet tall; 5 to 15 feet wide

Light: Full sun, partial shade

Soil: Tolerates a variety of soil types that have fast to medium drainage

Water: Low, very low.  No more than twice a month irrigation in summer

Uses: Fire resistant hedge, wildlife garden if water light and water requirements are met.
