Geranium maderense is a robust evergreen perennial/biennial recognized as the largest and possibly most spectacular geranium species.  This is a mounding plant ferny palmate leaves up to 8-inches long perched upon fleshy red stems.  In spring, showy purplish-pink flowers rise far above the attractive foliage on sepals covered with brilliant hairs.  This plant dies after flowering but generously self-sows.

Soil: Best in rich soil with moisture but tolerates clayish and dryish soil.

Other Notes: Dies after flowering; prolifically self-sows
