This perennial shrub is native to California. It is an excellent addition to a wildlife garden because the flowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies and bees then when the fruits form they attract a variety of birds. The fruits are edible however they have many seeds, so they are more popular for making jam, jelly and pie. This variant works well as a ground cover and will produce its first flowers as early as 3 years old. Does well at the bottom of slopes where there is more groundwater.

Size: Grows 6-10 feet in height with a spread of 5-10 feet.
Light: Part shade
Soil: Tolerates a variety of soils.
Water: Average
Bloom: Blooms in Spring and Winter; blooms are yellow. 
Other notes: Winter deciduous, spreads through underground rhizomes.
Uses:  Makes a good shrubby ground cover, and excellent addition to wildlife garden.
