For vertical tropical effect, this highly fragrant flowering perennial with a rhizomatic root system is sure to please. The sweetly fragrant flowers are described as resembling butterflies grouped together. Though sometimes considered a 'famine food', this is not the same as culinary ginger. Can enter dormancy in colder winters, Zone 7-11.

Rhizomatous Perennial
Size:  4-8' high, spreading
Light:  full sun to dappled shade
Water:  Consistent watering with good drainage
Soil:  Requires moisture-retention with good drainage, not sodden.
Bloom: summer, yellow
Uses:  Large container, landscape, tropical effect

Notes:  Lift and divide clumps every 3-4 years in fall to maximize bloom. Deer resistant and fragrant!
