Alcea rosea - Country Romance Hollyhock

This strain features a blend of rose, white, maroon, yellow and pink, large3-5" flowers on stalks 5-7 feet high from July to September.

Hollyhocks have been grown in gardens for centuries, their tall spikes of satiny, crepe-textured flowers making a fine display in mid-summer. Best at the back of a sunny border, with something in front to hide their bare lower stems. Plants usually act as short-lived perennials, but will re-seed themselves for many years. The single forms are often said to be more resistant to Hollyhock rust. Attractive to both butterflies and hummingbirds, and bees go pollen-crazy!

Size: 5-7 feet tall, spaced 24 inches apart

Light: Full sun

Soil: Well-drained preferred, but will re-seed in almost any type of soil

Water: Moderate

Bloom: Mixed shades, Summer through Fall

Other Notes and Uses: Superbly pollinator-friendly, striking tall spikes of blooms that are generously proportioned and work well as the back row of a flower garden.
