Lathyrus odoratus - Mermaid's Dream Sweet Pea

Lathyrus odoratus, native to the Mediterranean region, is a moderately fast-growing, strongly scented, tendril climber.  Mermaid's Dream mix is composed of blue, lavender, purple, mauve and cream long stemmed, large blossomed flowers ideal for cut flowers.  Sweet peas thrive in cooler temperatures and benefit from afternoon shade.  Deadheading extends bloom time.

Size: 6 – 8 feet in height
Light: Full sun or part-day shade.   Sweet peas bloom best before the weather gets too hot.  Where summer heat comes on fast, they’ll appreciate a spot with afternoon shade.
Soil: Sweet peas must have well drained soil, so dig deeply and enrich with aged manure or compost before planting. 
Water: Mulch and keep well-watered.
Bloom: Early Spring through Summer.
Other notes: Plant 4 -5 inches apart. Erect a well-anchored trellis, vertical netting or other support for vines before planting.  Plants benefit from monthly feeding with liquid fertilizer.  Protect young plants from birds, slugs and snails.  May re-seed.
Uses: Sweet Peas are easy to grow on fences, trellis’ arbors or arches where they will happily twine and release their fabulous scent. Blooming in clusters, they make magnificent cut flowers and great bouquets for your home. The more you pick them, the more they will continue to flower.
