California Honeysuckle is a fast, easy to grow vine shrub that can survive in moist soil and hot dry conditions.  It is found in its natural habitat on slopes along creek beds from San Luis Obispo north along the coast and in the foothills. Pink tubular flowers rich in nectar bloom in late spring, early summer, then eventually turn into red berries.  This plant is a magnet for nectar feeders and berry lovers alike.

Other Notes: Lonicera hispidula is a foliar host for the pathogen Phytophthora ramorum, which causes sudden oak death.   Take care when planting near sensitive oaks.  Supports hummingbirds, bats, birds, butterflies and caterpillars.
