Malacothamnus palmeri var. lucianus, 'Santa Lucia Bushmallow', is native to and endemic to California.  This rare, beautiful Mallow derives from the hot Santa Lucia mountains and grows in Southern and Central California, primarily in the desert mountains in chaparral and woodland plant communities of the Central Coast and Coast Ranges of Monterey County.  Deep pink cup-shaped flowers grow above fuzzy light green leaves in late spring and summer.  This Bushmallow grows up to 5-6 feet spreads slowly to form colonies.

Size: 5-6 feet tall, 5 feet wide

Light: Full sun

Soil: Medium drainage, prefers heavy soil but tolerates a variety of garden soils

Water: Low

Bloom: Deep pink flowers bloom in spring and summer

Other Notes:  Attracts bees and other pollinators, attracts birds, deer resistant and drought tolerant
