Antirrhinum majus - Night and Day Snapdragon
Size: 1/2 Gallon
'Night and Day' is a spicy scented, visually striking cousin of the 'Black Prince' snapdragon. This bumblebee favorite is long blooming and makes absolutely gorgeous cut flowers! We love how it looks next to bunny tails grass in a container. When the weather cools in fall, its dark red petals turn nearly black and its foliage turns dark burgundy, enhancing the contrast with its lower white jaws. The edible flowers with their unique shape make an interesting and pretty garnish on salads, desserts, and cold drinks.
Short-lived clump-forming herbaceous perennialSize: Grows up to 18 inches tall and spreads 12 inches wide
Light: Grow in full sun or part shade although they will flower more in sunny locations.
Soil: Grow in well drained soil.
Water: Snapdragons need regular watering. When no rainfall they need 1 inch of water a week. Regular watering will keep the plants healthier. Once or twice a week is ideal.
Bloom: Blooms Early Summer to Fall. Dark-red, White in Summer; White, Dark-red in Autumn
Other notes: This plant is a pollinator, deer resistant, and good as a cut flower or in container gardens.
Uses: Attractive in cut flower beds, or container gardens 'Night and Day' is a tender, short-lived, clump-forming, herbaceous perennial, typically grown as an annual, with lance-shaped, dark green leaves and, from early summer into autumn, upright racemes of fragrant, two-lipped, dark red flowers with white throats.
