Scrophularia california is a upright, fast-growing perennial herb native to the western United States and British Columbia. Triangular blue-green leaves are paired opposite each other a single squared stem. Small brownish-magenta buds about a centimeter in diameter begin to appear in winter and continue through spring. They are a bee magnet.
