Penstemon rostriflorus, commonly known as ‘Beaked’ or ‘Beakflower’ Penstemon, is native to woodland, forest, scrub and sagebrush habitats throughout the Southwest.  Smooth-edged linear to lanceolate leaves cover the stiff stalks covered support the scarlet red inflorescence.  Absent a bee-specific landing pad the Beaked Penstemon flowers are set in a downward facing posture to allow only hummingbird pollination. This moderately easy to grow penstemon can be found growing on shady mountains or on dry canyon slopes throughout the Southwest.
