Salvia elegans, Native to Central Mexico, is fast-growing perennial sage that quickly reaches 4 to 5 feet tall when planted in rich, well-drained soil.  This sage performs best when planted in an area protected from the wind.  The beautiful scarlet-red flowers provide a nectar treat for Hummingbirds and leaves provide scent reminiscent of pineapple.  Refresh this plant annually by cutting it back when leaves start to emerge in Spring.  Generally, gopher resistant.
