Polystichum munitum 'Western Sword Fern'

Western Sword Fern is an evergreen perennial fern native to Western North America and the most abundant of ferns in forested areas.  The Western Sword Fern grows at a moderate rate in an upright fountain form.  Its dark green fronds up to 6 feet long grow in a tight clump and spread out radially from its round base.  

Plant Type: Evergreen semi-deciduous perennial fern

Light: Partial shade, deep shade
Size: Grows 2 - 6 ft tall; 2 -5 ft wide.
Soil: Tolerates a variety of soils as long as they retain moisture.
Water: Moderately drought tolerant but does best with a weekly deep watering.
Bloom: None 
Other notes: Deer and rabbit resistant.  Host to at least 3 butterflies and moths.  Trim out dead fronds to keep this fern looking its best.  
Uses: Containers, woodland garden, lawn alternative.
