This California native shrub tolerates almost any soil type. Prefers sun or part shade in coastal sites, and part shade in inland sites. Since it tends to be viney, it can be cut back whenever stems get too lengthy. Don't cut back into the woody portion. Excellent for hummingbird and butterfly gardens.
