Salvia leucantha - Mexican Bush Sage "All Purple"

Mexican Bush Sage is a soft-fuzzy, bushy evergreen sub-shrub that produces flowers from spring to frost.  A great many flower stems (up to 4 ft. long in a single season) are produced from its root stock and bear whorls of 3/4" to 1¼”  purple flowers and calyxes. Leaves are lance shaped, like willow leaves, puckered on top and white-wooly underneath. In several years it can quickly spread from 3' ti 6' in width. Deadheading as the flowers fade will produce more inflorescence and allow the plant to remain more upright. 

Prune to the ground in late February or early March.

Water:  Low.  Drought tolerant
Bloom:  Spring to frost; purple only
Other Notes:  Sages attract hummingbirds, and beneficial insects.  Deer resistant
Uses: Beds, Borders, Containers and Cut Flowers. Useful in flower arranging and when dried the flowers and calyces retain their color.
