Solanum zanti - 'Mountain Pride Nightshade'

Solanum zanti, is a lightly spreading subshrub with small green leaves and dark purple flowers with bright yellow stemens at its center.  It is semi-deciduous This Mountain Pride Nightshade does best in shade in warmer climates and is well suited to growing under Oaks.  Mountain Pride Nightshade is poisonous as are all Nightshades.  This California native is adaptable to most soil types as long as there is good drainage.  It is drought tolerant and needs little water during dry periods.  

Size: 2 to 3 feet high; 3 to 5 feet wide

Light: Sun to part shade on the coast; shade inland

Soil: Tolerates most soil types as long as it has good drainage

Water: Low. Occasional watering once established.

Bloom: One-inch-deep purple flowers with bright yellow center stamens Spring and Summer

Other Notes: Cut back leggy stems to promote bushy new growth. Drought tolerant and deer resistant.

Uses: Good container plant, garden borders, Oak woodland garden
